Overview
The project stems from inspiration from rising sneakerhead culture, and the care and organization that comes from buying and collecting these high-value shoes.
As of 2019, Nike was the world's largest supplier of clothing, accessories and sports shoes.
About
Even though some of Nike’s shoes are one of the most iconic and priced sneakers out there, their unboxing experience and storage options are the same as always: the standard cardboard box.
There’s a big area of opportunity here, considering a redesign could offer huge improvements talking about users’ experience with such a memorable brand.

Challenge
How might we improve user experience through packaging?
New packaging that takes advantage of materials in the Nike Grind initiative. That provides a better organization and visualization in store, modular, attractive to the consumer, that allows the subsequent use of the packaging to extend its useful life, and / or that the product cycle can be closed by making it recyclable.

New System
TheNewBox is modular, aesthetically attactive,& has a long life-span.
It has a shape that allows improved modularity with the added bonus of not being a boring shape. The collapsable front allows users to reutilize this box as a protective sneaker case that can be easily accomodated inside people’s closets or one on top of the other.
The New Box features the BrandTag, which are little, customizable rubber tags that come in different colors and different Nike Brands. This to offer an exciting element of customization for big fans.
More options, more excitement, less waste.
When users purchase online they are welcomed by the Greeting Card, that adds an element of suspense to opening new shoes. Looking to minimize waste and close the product’s life-cycle, people can now opt to leave the box in-store to be used again with another pair of shoes. Instead, people can choose a drawstring bag made from PET fibers so Nike Grind can process them.

Modularity
Increased modularity.
Low-relief details and subtle organic shapes create a visually attractive shape, as well as increase functionality. Part of Nike’s social conscience comes with interest about their products’ end of life. They have two programs: Reuse-A-Shoe & Nike Grind, where the former collects worn shoes in their shops, and the latter separates the materials in them, processes them into raw material, and uses them to create diverse athletic surfaces.
A similar program for their packaging was non-existent at the moment of ideation, which is why every element of the New Packaging System has particularly crafted to become a part of their existing programs, in a seamless way.
